Background - The Recorders' Forum

During 2005, the current Recorders' Forum was established with a group of recorders elected in as a committee by an assembled representation of recorders.  The committee's role was to both oversee the running of the forum and also to act as the interface between the forum and RECORD and its management team. The committee fulfills these roles in a variety of ways including the following:

  • To give recorders a discussion forum to pass on information about their projects and sightings, and to ensure that each was informed as to the totality of recording in the area. This awareness raising was to help form alliances and thereby bolster recording effort and also to develop a ‘recording community’
  • To allow recorders the chance to find out about developments and happenings within RECORD but most importantly to have a voice in the evolution and the management of their local records centre.
  • Development of verification rules for data entered through RODIS
  • The setting of meetings of the full Recorders' Forum for all recorders in the Cheshire region.
  • The production of an annual RECORD and Recorders' Conference run in conjunction with RECORD.
  • The finding of funding to support an annual conference and the forum meetings.
  • The development, editing and funding for a Recorders' Newsletter - The Sentinel

Aims and Objectives of the Recorders' Forum Committee
  • Promote communication and provide support (especially when dealing with new and less experienced recorders) within the recording community and communication between recorders/recording groups and Record.
  • Continue to evolve an official system of record verification through Record county verifiers as part of the national verification network.
  • Encourage data sharing between all relevant parties and recorders.

In an ideal world the Forum and RECORD would like to hold a conference and/or a meeting of recorders every year, but funding and time do not always permit this. All the Committee members of the Forum are volunteers with other demands on their time, so they can not necessarily devote as much time as they would like to RECORD or the Forum.
