Free Educational Resources

RECORD is concerned that there appears to be a loss of interest, for many different reasons, in schools providing basic teaching and training for young people in the wildlife (plants and animals) with which they share their environment.

To aid them provide such interest we provide FREE downloadable and printable work and information sheets for use in the classroom (be that indoors or out). If we can help further please do contact us on: 01244 383749.

RECORD is the Biodiversity Information System for the Cheshire region and is therefore closely involved with science in the form of biological/biodiversity information (natural history data). We firmly believe that we have a remit to raise the awareness of natural history study within our area and would wish to be involved with schools and colleges in their attempts to achieve improved natural science teaching. However, we also believe that science can, and should be, 'fun' and to aid this a number of the resources/teaching materials we provide are specifically aimed at encouraging children, and adults, to look at science subjects in a more favourable light.

The resources provided below, most of which are based upon natural history subjects, are available for free download and may be photocopied as often as you wish with one proviso, this being that the logos at the top of each page and the copyright notice at the footer of each page remain as part of the document. These documents can be downloaded by schools, teachers, parents, children and anyone else who wishes to use them for educational or entertainment purposes. Please note that they may NOT be reproduced and exchanged or sold for profit. RECORD  is an independent not-for-profit organisation and we would therefore ask you to contact us should you have any such requirement for commercial usage.

The documents are provided as PDF files which require the Acrobat Reader software. It is usually installed on most computers but should you need to obtain the software it can be downloaded for free by clicking the following icon ->  Click here to get your free copy of Acrobat Reader to enable you to read PDF files.

Investigation of a large number of available fonts and their construction leads us to believe that the best font for use on printed documents for early school years (Key Stages 1 and 2) is one which most closely matches the lower case letter construction being taught to the children. It is our recommendation that you look carefully at a font called "Montreal SF" which we believe closely matches this requirement. This font is provided below for you to download. It is provided as a zipped file; you will need a copy of WinZip or other file compression software to un-zip it, following which it should be copied to your Fonts folder in your Windows directory. A copy of WinZip can be downloaded by clicking on this graphic -->  Click here to download a copy of WinZip to un-zip your font file and any other zipped files you may find on the Net.
