The Cheshire Moth Group (CMG)
The Cheshire Moth Group (CMG) was formed in 2000 and was, basically, an informal group of friends with a common interest - love of the outdoors and moths in particular. We have a wide range of experience, from total novice to seasoned veterans and keep in touch regularly via the Cheshire Moth Forum.
The forum provides everyone the opportunity to post notes of their recent sightings, upload attachments, seek help in identifying those difficult species; learn about forthcoming events and much more.
Our area of interest is Vice County (VC58) Cheshire and a map of the area is given below.
The CMG became formally affiliated with the Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society (LCES) in early 2002 and most of us are also local branch members of Butterfly Conservation (BC).
Annual reports are published on the Cheshire Moth Forum and provide detailed accounts of our most interesting moth sightings each year.
A database of the county's moths are maintained by our County Recorders, Steve Hind (micro-moths) and Steve Holmes (macro-moths). This data, once verified, is passed onto a number of conservation organisations and recording schemes, such as the National Moth Recording Scheme (NMRS) run by BC and deposited with RECORD, our local biological record centre.
