The North West of England has been a centre of interest in natural history and wildlife study in Britain for the last couple of hundred years with many societies, and groups evolving and two major museums (Liverpool and Manchester) developing in the region, along with many smaller museums and collections. Many natural history and specialist groups have come and gone during that time period but many of the older, and a number of the newer, ones are currently extremely active.
