RECORD - Aims and Objectives

RECORD Service Aims:

RECORD, as a Charity, and as a Not-for-Profit organisation, will provide an information/data service, with regard to biodiversity data, to all bona-fide enquirers. This data will be comprised mainly of species data (records) but, over time, will include both habitat and site boundary data based within a GIS system.

This service aims to:

  • be impartial
  • be authoritative, based on scientific investigation
  • be non-profit making - any temporary profit to be reinvested in the service
  • be free except to commercial users or in other special circumstances
  • be non-confrontational
  • be an information organisation, not a conservation one
  • charge a fair fee where appropriate
  • maintain good relations with land-owners and tenants
  • obtain permission from landowners to visit sites
  • maximise ’best value’ benefits for local authorities
  • work with the NBN and other co-ordinating initiatives that support our core functions
  • work with all local, regional and national naturalists to make information safe, reliable and accessible
  • work in a legal and safety-conscious manner
