Hosting for Groups

RECORD recognises the importance of the promotion of Cheshire's biodiversity and of recorders' work and effort by presences on the Internet. However, many small recording groups and specialist societes have neither the available funds nor the expertise to put up their own websites. Consequently, to assist these groups, and to promote biodiversity recording within the county as a part of our involvement with Cheshire's biological recording community, RECORD offers to host small sites within the main body of this website (2 or three pages of text and a few photos). We currently host sites for:

  • Cheshire Mammal Group (CMaG) - a dedicated band of recorders who are diligently working towards the production of a Provisional Atlas of Mammals in Cheshire for publication in 2007. (See: CMaG).
  • Cheshire Moth Group (CMG) - a group which started as a couple of individuals and has grown over the last few years to a small army of moth'ers who regularly run light-traps and who are also working towards a provisional distribution atlas for publication within the next couple of years. (See: CMG).
  • Cheshire Bat Group (CBG) - a long standing recording group in the county and one which services all the bat and bat roost calls from Cheshire's general public. (See: CBG).
  • Cheshire Hymenoptera Group (CHG) - a local recording scheme for Cheshire's Aculeate Hymenoptera (Bees, Wasps and Ants) run by the County Aculeate Hymenoptera Recorder. These pages include identification aids to Bumblenee identification. (See: CHG).
  • Cheshire's Recorders' Forum (CRF) - a forum for bringing together all of the Cheshire recorders from various recording disciplines to enable them to interact and to have a say in the development of their Local Record Centre (RECORD). (See: Recorders' Forum).
  • Lancashire and Cheshire Entomological Society (LCES) - the premier entomological society in the North West of England and one of the major entomological societies in Britain. It has been in existence for over 100 years and has always been at the forefront of entomological work and research in the country. Meetings are currently held at Frodsham Community Centre in Fluin Lane, Frodsham, in the north of Cheshire. (See: LCES).
  • Cheshire Swans - The Group was started in August 1988 by Dennis Elphick as only fifteen breeding pairs of mute swans (Cygnus olor) had been found in the whole of the County of Cheshire. The problem of low numbers of swans was put down mainly to the use of lead in fishing, and a subsequent ban on the use of lead, and the good natured change in habits by fishermen has enabled the swan population to recover to good levels in all areas. This increase led the group to study the breeding success, record moulting and wintering flocks and follow the movement of swans in Cheshire and nearby areas.(See: Cheshire Swans)

What We Can Do:

  • Give your recording scheme/natural history society a web presence; an online point of contact for the recording community.
  • Work with you to produce a selection of webpages which provide information about your scheme/society, give contact details, links, etc.
  • Offer advice on what sort of content to supply.

What We Can Not Do:

  • Act as an ISP (Internet Service Provider)
  • Produce a 'micro-site' for EVERY scheme /society.
  • Redesign your existing website.
  • Design a logo for your scheme/society.
  • Provide you with e-mail addresses.

What You Should Do:

  • Contact RECORD on: 01244 383749, for an initial discussion.
  • Provide us with suitable text, images (photographs), contact details, etc. as content.
  • Be prepared to learn a little so that YOU can control and edit the content of your pages from your own home/base.
