CWT Halton & Warrington Group at Risley Moss – for butterflies and dragonflies

Risley Moss is an important nature reserve as it is one of the few peat bogs left in the area. The site attracts a good number of butterflies and up to 19 dragonfly species.

Introduction to Marine Mammals Saturday 4th August, Hilbre Island

This workshop provides an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to identify marine mammals and to practice and learn standard survey techniques. CWT Halton & Warrington Group at Wigg Island – for raptors, wading and migrant birds

Saturday 22nd September, 10am at main car park, over Old Quay swing bridge, Runcorn (SJ526834)

Another Local Nature Reserve run by Halton BC, several hides overlook the inner Mersey estuary as well as large areas of saltmarsh, there is also a large reedbed and areas of woodland. The diverse habitats attract many types of birds and wild flowers.

Memory Walk

The course aims to identify opportunities within the land use planning system for incorporating biodiversity benefits into new development proposals. Topics covered include wildlife legislation; the impact of development on protected species and wildlife sites; and advice for making effective representations to planning applications on nature conservation grounds.

CWT Natural Know-How Programme

Developing your "Natural Know-How"

Would you like to get involved with wildlife and develop your natural history skills?
Perhaps you would like to learn to identify the wildlife you see around you in the countryside.
Would you like to get involved in wildlife surveys and need someone to show you how to do it?
Are you interested in countryside skills?

Most workshops incorporate an indoor session and a field trip to a nature reserve or other suitable site unless otherwise specified. Directions for the indoor and outdoor venues will be sent out on receipt of course payment. Some workshops may be unsuitable for those with mobility difficulties. Stout footwear and waterproofs are recommended for all outdoor venues. Unless otherwise specified, please bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided when possible.
