CHESHIRE REGION BIODIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP MEMBER DETAILS:
STOCKPORT METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

Since the launch of Stockport's Action Plan for Nature in January 1998, a strong partnership has developed involving all sectors of the local community and agencies across the North West Region. A number of Local Biodiversity Action Plan groups have been established to provide technical support and advice on behalf of Stockport Nature Network and our key agency partners. Cheshire Wildlife Trust is a key partner at both a regional and local level, enabling the exchange of valuable information, resources and experience across administrative boundaries.

One of the main objectives of this partnership approach is the development and implementation of a Local Biodiversity Action Plan. This will provide targets, linked to the UK and North West Regional Biodiversity Audits and Action Plans, to halt and reverse the loss and severe degradation of important habitats and species across the Borough.

These targets will be achieved by adopting an all encompassing approach to the protection and conservation of nature through:

  • community involvement
  • awareness raising, education and interpretation
  • habitat, species and site protection and management
  • best practice advice
  • resource procurement

The detailed development and implementation of this approach is guided and promoted by a new 'Framework for Action' document and through species and habitat action plans.

Stockport's Action Plan for Nature, like Countdown, is an ongoing process that offers exciting opportunities for everyone to take positive action for nature. Action Plan for Nature can be viewed on line at
