CHESHIRE REGION BIODIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP MEMBER DETAILS:
ELLESMERE PORT AND NESTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council aims to conserve and enhance the natural resources of the area. The authority is working towards this aim with the local community and other partners in various ways.

For example the Council :-

Has undertaken a Borough wide Nature Conservation Audit in partnership with Cheshire County Council and Natural England ;

Has planning policies within the Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Local Plan (adopted January 2002) to protect sites of interest and enhance opportunities for wildlife, from the internationally important Dee and Mersey Estuaries to locally important Sites of Nature Conservation Value. A 'Nature Conservation' supplementary planning guidance note, available from Planning Services, provides further guidance on these policies;

Manages wildlife sites and other countryside sites aiming to ensure that the local community has access to natural open space and information which promotes greater understanding and appreciation of wildlife and natural habitats;

Is enhancing existing and creating new habitats through its involvement in the Mersey Community Forest

Is focusing on this issue through the development of Local Agenda 21 in the Borough.
