Whatever your interest or previous experience, Cheshire Wildlife Trust is developing an exciting range of training workshops to meet your needs. They cover a wide variety of topics, from wildlife photography through bumblebee identification, to small mammal survey techniques. These workshops will suit you whether you are a complete beginner, have more experience or hope to gain skills for a career in conservation. They are open to all members of the public as well as CWT members.
Most workshops incorporate an indoor session and a field trip to a nature reserve or other suitable site unless otherwise specified. Directions for the indoor and outdoor venues will be sent out on receipt of course payment.
Stout footwear and waterproofs are recommended for all outdoor venues.
Unless otherwise specified, please bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided when possible.

Wildlife photography workshop #1 23rd April 10.30 to 4pm

This workshop includes an indoor session followed by a practical field session to introduce you to the basic principles of wildlife photography.
Please bring all of your own photographic equipment with you.

Learn basic field identification skills and techniques to identify birds by sight and call. This workshop is aimed for beginners or anyone interested in ornithology. Please bring a pair of binoculars with you, if possible.
This workshop will involve a dawn walk through a nature reserve after an indoor session held the evening before.
Wild flower ID - Woodland in spring 6th May 10.30 to 4pm

This workshop will comprise of both indoor and outdoor sessions. Learn to identify the spring flowers of Warburton Woods. This identification workshop will be conducted at a level suitable for a Phase I Habitat Survey.
Wildlife gardening workshop 13th May 10.30 to 4pm

Create your own miniature nature reserve. Learn how to attract wildlife into your garden. This workshop will include an indoor study session and an outdoor practical session to practice wildlife gardening skills.
Otter survey workshop 20th May 10.30 to 4pm

Trainer: Andy Crawford
Learn about the biology, ecology and habitats of otters. Develop the skills to identify the signs of otters in their natural environment. With both indoor and outdoor sessions this workshop is aimed at beginners or anyone interested in the otter.
Grasses and sedges workshop 10th June 9.30 to 1pm
New Ferry Butterfly Park

This workshop is essentially an outdoor session to learn to identify different species of grasses and sedges. Although this identification workshop is open to anyone interested in grassland species, it will be best suited to those with some botanical knowledge.

This workshop is open to anyone interested in entomology. It provides an introduction to the ecology, biology and habitat requirements of pond invertebrates and will include an indoor session and an outdoor session to observe the species discussed in their natural habitat and practice basic field identification skills.
Bumblebee ID 1st July 10.30 to 4pm

This workshop is open to anyone interested in entomology. It provides an introduction to the ecology and biology of bumblebee species and will be comprised of an indoor session and an outdoor session to observe the species’ and practice basic field identification skills. The indoor session will include information on bumblebee conservation and the future of bumblebees.

Water voles survey workshop 16th July 10.30 to 4pm

Learn about the biology, ecology and habitats of water voles. Develop the skills to identify the signs of water voles in their natural environment. With both indoor and outdoor sessions this workshop is aimed at beginners or anyone interested in the water vole.

This workshop is open to anyone interested in entomology. It provides an introduction to the ecology, biology and behaviour of dragonfly and damselfly species and will comprise of an indoor session and an outdoor session to observe the species in their natural habitat.

This workshop provides an introduction to the ecology and biology of British reptiles. Learn to identity native reptile species. The workshop includes both outdoor and indoor sessions.

Willow weaving workshop 7th October 10.30 to 4pm

This workshop will introduce you to the country craft of willow weaving. This is an indoor workshop in which you will be introduced to willow weaving for the garden. You will have an opportunity to produce your own small structure.
Fungi foray 15th October 10.30 to 4pm

This workshop is open to all levels of experience and will include an outdoor session and an indoor session. Learn to identify the larger species of fungi in the field.
