This is a copy of a letter issued today by the Countdown 2010 Secretariat for the IUCN - The World Conservation Union. We feel rather pruod that they have chosen to share our name!
LAUNCH OF COUNTDOWN 2010 IN PAN-EUROPEAN REGION - CONNECT!
We are pleased to announce that the "Countdown 2010" initiative is launched today!
Many of you have been involved in the preparations, and today we would like to invite all of you to connect to this important pan-European initiative.
Countdown 2010 takes up the unique commitment of pan-European Environment Ministers and EU Heads of State to "halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010".
Countdown 2010 is an initiative with a difference: we recognise that only through a joint effort of all relevant organisations and stakeholders can the 2010 target be achieved.
Countdown 2010 aims to highlight the contributions of all organisations working for the conservation of biodiversity and focus actions towards the 2010 target.
Concerted action will enable and encourage decision makers across Europe to honour their ambitious 2010 commitment.
Connect your organisation to the Countdown 2010!
What you can do:
1.) Visit www.countdown2010.net and download the Countdown 2010 logo or use the attached logo, to place it on your organisation's homepage with a link to the Countdown 2010 homepage. A link to your own website can also be placed on www.countdown2010.net upon your request to [email protected]
2.) Write to the Countdown Secretariat at the IUCN Regional Office for Europe ([email protected]), to inform us of your activities to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010, so we can refer interested visitors to your homepage.
3.) Inform us if you would like to use the Countdown 2010 logo to show that your activities are contributing to the 2010 target.
4.) Send us your comments how we can improve the Countdown 2010 homepage and your suggestions for the Countdown thematic agenda until 2010.
A CD with relevant information and the Countdown 2010 logo will be sent out to all IUCN members and Countdown partners in June 2004. We are looking forward to your participation in the Countdown 2010.
