Cheshire region Local Nature Partnership

The Natural Environment White Paper, recognised that partnership working is the best way to achieve effective action for the natural environment and set out a vision for Local Nature Partnerships (LNPs). Once established, their overall purpose will be to bring a diverse range of individuals, businesses and organisations together at a local level to create a vision and plan of action of how the natural environment can be taken into account in decision making. There are currently 48 LNPs across England.
The overall purpose of an LNP is to:
- Drive positive change in the local environment, taking a strategic view of the challenges and opportunities involved and identifying ways to manage it as a system for the benfit of nature, people and the economy.
- Contribute to achieving the Governments national environmental objectives locally, including the identification of local ecological networks, alongside addressing local priorities.
- Become local champions influencing decision-making relating to the natural environment and its value to social and economic outcomes, in particular, through working closely with local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and Health and Wellbeing Boards.

Cheshire region Local Nature Partnership
Recognised by Government in July 2012, the Cheshire region LNP includes the five local authority areas of Wirral, Halton, Warrington, Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East. Early 2013 an LNP Board was established, taking over from the Shadow Board which oversaw the LNP application to Defra.
Using the workshop outputs and information from discussions, a Proposal was put together outlining the vision, aim and priorities of the CrLNP. This forms the basis of the Action Plan which is currently being drafted.
