WELCOME TO CHESHIRE BIODIVERSITY
|
HOME | INTRODUCTION | SPECIES | HABITATS | PARTNERS | WHAT'S NEW | WHAT'S ON | OTHER INFO |
Welcome to Countdown, the Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) process in Cheshire. This brings together the work of over 40 organisations and groups, many of whom contribute their voluntary time on research, recording and practical work for the benefit of species and habitats.
The EU committed itself to the objective of halting the rate of biodiversity loss at the Gothenburg Summit in 2001, with the aim of achieving this by 2010. At the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, Heads of Government committed themselves to achieving a significant reduction in the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010.
Countdown has actions to take us up to 2020, with a vision of a healthier, more wildlife friendly Cheshire region. It is through the strength of the Partnership that progress towards this long-term vision has been met over the last ten years and will continue to do so in the future.
Although the benefits of wildlife to people and the economy are being increasing recognised at the same time there are still many challenges ahead: climate change, invasive species, to name just two.
The continued success requires further commitment from people from all walks of life and of all ages. Please browse the website to find out more and become involved.
