Cheshire Wildlife Trust
Vision:
"A Cheshire region richer in wildlife by 2020"
Mission Statement:
"Our objective is to create a Living Landscape for Cheshire by delivering our conservation strategy around 4 main aims:
Aim 1: To stand up for wildlife and the natural environment.
Aim 2: To create and enhance wildlife havens.
Aim 3: To inspire people about the natural world.
Aim 4: To foster sustainable living."
Cheshire Wildlife Trust in a national context:
Nationally, The Wildlife Trusts (TWT) form the largest organisation working exclusively in the UK (plus the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands) on all aspects of nature conservation.
TWT care for more than 2500 nature reserves nationally, covering 90,000 Ha. From woodland to wetland, urban pocket to rocky wilderness, they contain the richest variety of species in our land and sea, many extremely rare.
Speaking out with the voice of over 765,000 members, TWT campaign tirelessly for
better protection for the UK's wildlife, locally and nationally.
We invest in the future by helping all ages to gain a better perspective and
understanding of nature. Our work with schools and our junior club, Wildlife
WATCH, is enjoyed by thousands of children.
Taking action for wildlife locally:
The 13,000 members of Cheshire Wildlife Trust help to carry out this vital work at a local level, including projects such as dormouse and harvest mouse reintroduction, water vole recovery, black poplar restoration and nature reserve management in Cheshire, Halton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington and Wirral.
A major part of our work is the management of our 47 nature reserves, including our latest and largest acquisitions, Gowy Meadows and Dutton Park Farm nature reserves. Our reserves protect and conserve examples of woodland, grassland, heathland, wetland, sand dunes and peat bogs. We also play a much wider role throughout the region by:
- Demonstrating best practice land management
- Delivering a successful countywide Conservation Grazing Scheme
- Speaking out on appropriate local issues
- Fighting insensitive developments
- Offering safe access to nature reserves
- Increasing awareness about the environment
- Surveying and recording the region's biodiversity
