The natural environment of Cheshire West and Chester is wide and varied: a network of biological diversity exists from internationally important rivers and estuaries, meres and mosses, to nationally significant examples of ancient woodlands, grasslands and lowland heathlands, and individual trees, hedgerows and ponds that are valuable in the local context.

Policies for the protection, conservation and enhancement of the natural environment will be set out in the emerging Local Development Framework and practical enhancement of the Borough's wildlife is undertaken through externally funded projects such as Habitats and Hillforts, REVIVE and through the management of over 15 local nature reserves and country parks.
