British Waterways
Biodiversity action is already a key part of waterway management - and British
Waterways has produced guidance documents on how to develop this into Waterway
Biodiversity Action Plans.
There are two documents - an Introductory document and an accompanying
Biodiversity Manual.
The introductory brochure introduces British Waterways' biodiversity action plan
framework and describes the many habitats and species that make up waterway
biodiversity. These vary from obscure and exciting rarities such as grass-wrack
pondweed and floating water plantain to more familiar and well-loved species
such as water voles, dragonflies and mute swans.
